Description

Re-discovering the Gospel through the Arts

This course aims show how the arts, especially music and the visual arts, can contribute to the exploration and deeper perception of Christian doctrine. This is not primarily a course in the arts, but a course in theology pursued in an artistic way. Participants will discover that the arts have a unique and irreplaceable part to play in enriching Christian wisdom: difficult and unfamiliar themes are brought to light and made clearer, and familiar themes opened up in novel and exciting ways.

Jeremy S. Begbie is Associate Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge Affiliated Lecturer, Faculty of Divinity, Cambridge. Honorary Professor, University of St. Andrews. BA (Edinburgh), BD, PhD (Aberdeen), ARCM (Royal College of Music, London), LRAM (Royal Academy of Music, London). He is the author of Music in God’s Purposes, Voicing Creation’s Praise: Towards a Theology of the Arts, and Theology, Music and Time.
