Can I "bookmark" a file so the audio starts up again at the places where I stopped?

The ability to "bookmark" a file is typically only available for files created for use with a certain media player (e.g. if you download an audiobook formatted for use with iTunes, it can only be played using iTunes. As we strive for mulitple device compatibility, all our audio files are in basic mp3 format, which means bookmarking a file is not possible as is.

However, if you use iTunes 8 (or higher) there is an easy way to convert a file to audio book format that will allow bookmarking. Simply select the file(s) you wish to convert, right click your mouse (or control-click for one button Mac mouse users) on it, and choose Get Info from the menu that comes up. You can also use the keyboard shortcut control-i (PC users) or command-i (Mac users) to bring it up as well.

Once you have the Get Info box up on your screen, select the Options tab/button, then choose Audiobook from the Media Kind drop-down menu. You will also need to check the Remember playback position box for the bookmarking to work. Click Ok and you're done. The files will automatically be transferred to the Audiobooks folder, so look for it there when you go to play it back.

Keep in mind that this can be done for multiple files at once simply by selecting the files you wish to convert and then bringing up the Get Info box. After that, just follow the same process as above.

Unfortunately for Windows Media Player users, there does not seem to be a built-in way to create bookmarked files. At least we haven't found one. However, there does seem to be a plug-in that may offer this functionality available from WMplugins.com. Please keep in mind that we have not tested this plug-in and cannot support any problems that may arise from its use.
