Description

The eighteenth-century evangelical movement was born out of a desire to renew the church from within-rather than recreate a 'true church' or launch a new ecclesiastical structure. Since then, however, individual congregations, entire denominations, and an explosion of parachurch ministries have claimed the label "evangelical." In seven plenary sessions and two roundtable discussions, a diverse group of scholarly theological practitioners will explore whether the idea of an "evangelical church" is fruitful or merely an illusion. Sessions include:

  • Is Evangelical Ecclesiology an Oxymoron? - Bruce Hindmarsh
  • Evangelical Conversion - George Hunsberger
  • The Marks of Evangelical Ecclesiology - Howard Snyder
  • Roundtable Discussion I
  • One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church - Edith Humphrey
  • Free Church Ecclesiology and Evangelical Spirituality - Roger Olson
  • Recovering a Trinitarian and Sacramental Approach to Church - Kerry Dearborn
  • Solidarity and Participation - Daniel Carro
  • Roundtable Discussion II
