David G. Benner (Post-graduate studies, Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis; Ph.D., M.A., York University; C.Pysch., College of Psychologists of Ontario; B.A., McMaster University) is Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Spirituality at the Psychological Studies Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. A psychologist, spiritual director and retreat leader, Benner has written and edited many books, including the Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling and Care of Souls. He is an executive editor of the journal Conversations.

This course was offered by Carey Theological College. This course is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to facilitate their personal spiritual formation by reflecting on their journey up to this point, becoming acquainted with a variety of spiritual disciplines and forms of prayer, drawing spiritual nurture from Christian spiritual literature (both classic and contemporary), and developing a strategy for developing personal spiritual practices within life and ministry. A portion of each class will be spent discussing and practicing various types of prayer.
