Description
While the New Testament writings repeatedly emphasize that the coming of Jesus Christ fulfills Old Testament expectations, modern Christians are often at a loss to see the connection. Focusing primarily on the books of Genesis to 2 Kings, this series seeks to show how this material anticipates a future divinely-appointed king or Messiah through whom all the nations of the earth shall be blessed. Listeners will grow in their appreciation of how the theme of the Messiah is introduced and developed throughout the Bible, especially the Old Testament. Lectures include:
- Surveying the Biblical Canvas
- The First "Seed" is Sown
- The Line of "Seed"
- Imitations of a Royal Line
- Promises and Warnings
- The Prelude to the Rise of the Israelite Monarchy
- The Story of Ruth - From Judah to David
- The Beginnings of the Monarchy
- The Characteristics of Divinely Appointed Royalty
- God's Promises Concerning the House of David
- Solomon - A Model of Ideal Kingship?
- The Demise of the Davidic Dynasty
- Hope Beyond Judgment (Amos; Isaiah)
- The Servant King (Isaiah)
- A Kingdom to Replace All Others (Jeremiah; Ezekiel; Daniel)
- The Coming of the Kingdom (Matthew 1-13)
