This Evening Public Lecture takes us through five important hermeneutical and exegetical elements of the Song of Songs which are genre, the relationship between theology and exegesis, the importance of ancient Near Eastern Studies, the power of poetry, and the issue of how to take an ancient text and apply it to the 21st century.
Tremper Longman III is Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies at Westmont College. His works include books on the Christian life, commentaries and other reference books, as well as contributions to scholarly discussions. He is author of God is a Warrior (with Daniel Reid) and Making Sense of the Old Testament: Three Crucial Questions.
