Is it inevitable that caring for people conflicts with the care of the non-human creation? Does Christ's call to love our neighbours marginalize all concern for plants and animals, air and water? Paul observed in Romans that the groaning of people and the groaning of the earth often go hand-in-hand in our broken world. The prophet Hosea explicitly links humankind's rejection of God to both social and ecological oppression and injustice. This conference explores three aspects of these interrelated issues of justice. Alfredo Abreu is Chair of the Portuguese Graduates Movement (IFES), member of the Board of A Rocha Portugal, and A Rocha International Trustee. BA (New University of Lisbon), MCS (Regent College).

David Diewert is a former professor of Biblical Languages at Regent College. He is now a sessional lecturer at Regent College where he teaches Biblical Greek and Hebrew as well as courses on Amos and other Old Testament book studies. Dr. Diewert lives on the eastside of Vancouver where he and his family live among and minister to the poor and marginalized of Vancouver.

Iain W. Provan is the E. Marshall Shepherd Professor of Biblical Studies (Old Testament) at Regent College. He has previously taught at King's College London, the University of Wales, and the University of Edinburgh. He is author of Seriously Dangerous Religion: What the Old Testament Really Says and Why it Matters, Convenient Myths: The Axial Age, Dark Green Religion, and the World that Never Was, commentaries on 1 & 2 Kings, Ecclesiastes & Song of Songs, and Lamentations, and co-author (with V. Phillips Long and Tremper Longman III) of A Biblical History of Israel. He is also a Life Member of Clare Hall, Cambridge.

Peter Harris is International Co-ordinator for the A Rocha Trust, an international Christian organization working in conservation.

Stella Simiyu is BGCI/SCBD Programme Officer, Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. MSc (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia), PhD cand. (Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya).
