Description

Love for God and his creation inspired men like Johannes Kepler, an astronomer of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and Carl Linnaeus, a botanist of the eighteenth century, to study the world around them. Taking seriously St. Paul's words in the first chapter of Romans, they believed that studying God's handiwork would aid their understanding of the Creator. In the same way that theologians search for God's truth in his word, these men searched for it in the first book of revelation, his works. Their legacy is the rich scientific tradition of the Western world. However, the once widely recognized link between the search for truth in God's word and creation has long since been severed. Nowadays, even in the church, the study and care of God's creation carries no particular esteem.

The aim of this series is to engage the heart, mind, and spirit in a journey to renew the relationship between God's creation and his word. In his two keynote addresses, Eugene Peterson focuses on understanding and honouring the gifts of creation as revealed in Genesis. Other speakers - include Bruce Waltke, Rikk Watts, Cheryl Bear-Barnetson, and Loren Wilkinson - expand on this theme, examining the interface between creation and gospel. Joining them are A Rocha founders Peter and Miranda Harris, who speak on incarnational mission and how we as humans fit into the community of God's creation using the Bible as our guide. Together these men and women help unfold the riches of Scripture and creation, and explore the ways in which we can work within God's handiwork for his glory and to the benefit of all his creation. Lectures include:

  • Genesis 1: Creation - The Gift of Time - Eugene Peterson
  • Creation and Wisdom - Bruce Waltke
  • Jesus: The First and Last Earth-Keeper - Rikk Watts
  • The Gospel for the Earth - Loren Wilkinson and Cheryl Bear-Barnetson
  • Creation and Community - Peter and Miranda Harris
  • Genesis 2: Creation - The Gift of Place - Eugene Peterson
  • Panel Discussion
