Description
Spirituality has been a hot topic over the past few years. This series explores a specific type or model of Christian spirituality practised by Christians living from roughly the third to the seventh centuries CE. How, for example, did these early Christians pray? Where was their understanding of Christian character? Who were the "desert fathers?" How can the insights of these early Christians be translated into the context of the modern world? These and other questions and issues are addressed. Lectures include:
- A Guide to Devotional Reading: Possibilities and Potential Problems
- Athanasius's The Life of Antony (2 Lectures)
- Sayings From the Desert Fathers (3 Lectures)
- John Cassian: Conferences (2.5 Lectures)
- John Chrysostom: On Wealth and Poverty (1.5 Lectures)
