Description
The spiritual life, as much as the intellectual life, needs guidance in the biblical principles and prayerful practice of those necessary conditions and facilitating circumstances for Christian growth. But as our secular culture has become so oriented to the therapeutic and mentored life, it is also necessary to be critically insightful of the psychological bias of our culture. There is a focus on four sets of issues: a critique of major models of mentoring; historical perspectives on the Christian care of souls; factors in formative spirituality; and guidelines for spiritual direction in Trinitarian theology.
Lectures include:
- Greek Patristic Education and the Heroic Mentor
- Stoicism
- The Therapeutic Mentor
- Mentoring for Christian Existence
- The Postmodern Narcissistic Self
- Mentoring and Formation
- Beyond Individualism: Conversion Towards Personal Existence
- Mentored by the Word of God
- Persons in Relationship: Trinitarian Reflections
- Being Mentored Emotionally
- Formative Dispositions of the Heart
- Purpose, Practice, and Principles of Mentoring
