Description
Although known in the Roman Catholic tradition as Mystical Theology in the late Middle Ages, and later as Ascetic Theology, the promotion of spiritual formation within theological education, Catholic and Protestant, has only developed since the 1970's.
This course explains formally both the nature and the purpose of Spiritual Theology. It is interpreted as distinctive from either Dogmatics/Systematic Theology, or from Moral/Pastoral or Applied Theology, and the basic defence of its distinctives lies in the present paradigmatic changes of our culture.
This series addresses the current changes in religious consciousness and the confusion we may be experiencing concerning our Christian identity, as well as our deepening desires to experience our faith rather than describe it from a rationalistic and detached point of view. How personal can the presence of God be in our lives as Christians today? If Spirituality has become so popular, how do we discern the authenticity of the presence of the Holy Spirit from false spirits? It is with such issues in mind that this series is offered, in order to give sound theological character to our Christian formation in Christ Jesus, through the Holy Spirit.
