Description
In recent years it has been typical of many congregations of the Christian church for those who care about public worship (liturgy) to have little to do with those who care about justice. This series explores the deep and rich connections between the public liturgy of the church and justice. After initial sessions in which the nature of liturgy and the nature of justice are explored, the course proceeds to consider some of the connections. It examines the biblical theme that doing justice is a condition of authentic worship. It explores the connections between liturgy, justice and suffering; liturgy, justice and remembering; and liturgy, justice and holiness. It looks at how liturgy can empower for justice and concludes with an exploration of the ways in which authentic justice requires worship. Lectures include:
- Introduction / Understanding Justice I
- Understanding Justice II
- Understanding Liturgy I
- Understanding Liturgy II
- Understanding Liturgy III
- Liturgy, Justice, and Suffering
- Liturgy, Justice, and Remembering
- Liturgy, Justice, and Holiness
- Justice and Liturgy as Sampling/Signifying
- Liturgy as Empowering for Justice
