Description
These lectures are from the 2011 Regent College Pastors' Conference.
Leadership poses one of the greatest challenges to pastors today. Many congregations have expectations that their pastors be "leaders", sometimes in ways that uncritically reflect the wider culture. Many pastors in North America don't feel qualified to "lead", preferring to devote themselves to prayer, study, and teaching. Yet, the place of a strategic and missional visionary leadership in our post-Christendom age still remains in quesstion. What is the relationship of the leadership charisms in the New Testament to the life of contemplation and communion in Christ? How do we rescue the pastor from the "it-all-depends-on-me" syndrome? How do we help the leaders of churches avoid inordinate ownership of the ministry, selfish ambition, and pervasive burnout?
This conference presents the liberating understanding of leadership as participating in the life of the triune God, living out our union with Christ and his work in the world. While challenging the pastor to live contemplatively towards God, this understanding also invites the pastor into community with other leaders, and the body of Christ. These twin communal realities have profound repercussions for pastoral character formation. Lectures include:

- Pursuing Character: The Allure of Information and Skill - Rod Wilson
