This series examines historical, theological, philosophical, and liturgical perspectives on the function of the arts in Christian worship. Case studies from throughout the history of the church and from contemporary practices are employed to demonstrate how the arts function to support, enhance, and enact public worship. These case studies reflect a wide range of the arts, including music, architecture, drama, poetry and dance. The course also includes discussion of practical ways in which the arts might contribute to worship renewal in local congregations.

Lectures include:

  • A Biblical Theology of Worship and Christian Aesthetics
  • Church Architecture and Primary Symbols
  • Music
  • Reading and Embodiment
