“Universal Sister”: Dynamics of Spirituality Illuminated in St. Josephine Bakhita (1869 – 1947) from Regent Audio on Vimeo.

How is it that the life of an obscure African slave now reverberates across the world? Josephine Bakhita, a remarkable Sudanese slave-cum-saint, warrants careful consideration, especially given the scarcity of scholarly attention to women saints in general and to African saints in particular. While Bakhita may be viewed from various perspectives, this lecture will explore how her life illuminates certain dynamics of spirituality that transcend contexts and cultures, thereby offering universal appeal.
