Templeton Prize 2017
On April 25th, the John Templeton Foundation announced Alvin Plantinga as the recipient of the prestigious Templeton Prize. According to the foundation's website, "The Templeton Prize honors a living person who has made an exceptional contribution to affirming life’s spiritual dimension, whether through insight, discovery, or practical works. Established in 1972 by the late Sir John Templeton, the Prize aims, in his words, to identify "entrepreneurs of the spirit"—outstanding individuals who have devoted their talents to expanding our vision of human purpose and ultimate reality."
Plantinga is renowned for his scholarship in philosophy, especially for his contributions as a theist. Throughout his career, he has contended for a Christian philosophical vision developed out of meaningful interactions between religious belief and science, namely the field of analytic philosophy. Plantinga has authored many books, including Warranted Christian Belief (2000); Where the Conflict Really Lies: Science, Religion, and Naturalism (2011); Knowledge and Christian Belief (2015).
