Joao Matwawana and his family have fled as refugees on three occasions - twice from Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo and finally to Canada. In Canada he completed his M.Div. degree, after which he pastored in Nova Scotia and then served as a prison chaplain. After his retirement, he was appointed by Canadian Baptist Ministries as Peace and Reconciliation consultant in the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide.
