Are conflicts between cultures/civilizations replacing those based on ideological, economic and strategic interests? As the centre of gravity of the Christian Church shifts more and more towards the continents of Asia, Africa, and Latin America, what can Western Christians learn from non-Western Christians about facing the challenges of multi-culturalism, human rights and religious pluralism? What are the political, cultural and economic implications of the global nature of Christianity in the new millennium? Is secularism irreversible, and is the secular state a necessity for a tolerant and civil society? This course explores these and other such questions which bear on the challenge to live with Gospel integrity and prophetic faithfulness in a world that is becoming increasingly both unified and fragmented.
