The Indispensable Circularity of Grace from Regent Audio on Vimeo.
Since the Reformation, popular notions of God’s grace have strayed very far from Paul’s own. By far the most problematic conviction is that God's grace is “free” not merely in the sense that God was and is not under any constraint to show generosity towards human beings, but in the sense that it lays upon the recipients no obligation for the future. We will see how the circularity of grace was an essential element of grace relationships in Paul’s world, how the non-circularity of human responses to God's grace is the primary problem God seeks to overcome in Christ, and how the restoration of a proper circularity of grace and response is at the heart of what Paul believes God seeks to accomplish among the redeemed.
