Description
This is a conference designed for new entrepreneurs wanting to apply their faith to a start up business; or seasoned entrepreneurs wanting to experiment by applying their faith in existing businesses. Exploring business as a possible expression of God's inventive, risk-taking character, this conference will offer a Christian critique of current business practice and of social enterprises. Using research findings, case studies and current experimentation at Regent College, presenters will generate a dialogue between current practices and new and creative ways to apply the Christian faith in a business context. Since true knowing is more than head knowledge, facilitated breakout groups will engage participants in the design of Christian social enterprises. Participants will also devise methods of testing their designs, and those who wish will be given an opportunity to compete for the title of "Best Test Demonstrator," the winner of which will partner with the Marketplace Institute of Regent College to further develop their design's operation and evaluation.

This series is produced by the Regent College Marketplace Institute (MI). The MI's focus is to help people see the public nature of the gospel and how the significance of the Gospel's public nature shapes our daily lives. One of the ways it does this is through the production of educational materials for Christians seeking to live out their faith in their everyday lives.

Michael Hodson Ph.D. (University of Cambridge), B. Th. (University of Wales), BA, MA (Queen's) has worked extensively in business and academia integrating the theory and practice of his Christian Faith in the United Kingdom. He currently heads up the Social Enterprise Incubator at Regent College's Marketplace Institute.

R. Paul Stevens is Professor Emeritus of Marketplace Theology at Regent College. He is the author of Liberating the Laity, Disciplines of the Hungry Heart, The Other Six Days, Marriage Spirituality, Doing God's Business and co-editor (with Robert J. Banks) of The Complete Book of Everyday Christianity.

Paul Williams is Research Professor of Marketplace Theology & Leadershipnat Regent College. Previously, he was Chief Economist and Head of International Research for DTZ Holdings, an international real estate consulting and investment banking group headquartered in London, UK.

Rikk E. Watts is Professor of New Testament at Regent College. Previously, he served as an instructor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Wycliffe Hall at Oxford University, La Trobe University, and the Bible College of Victoria (now the Melbourne School of Theology). He is author of Isaiah's New Exodus in Mark, as well as a founding member of On Being, an Australian Christian magazine.
