This course provides an accessible but substantive introduction to Christian spirituality. This is understood to be about living all of life before God in the transforming and empowering presence of God's Spirit. Important concepts and terminology are clarified, biblical foundations explored, and the subsequent historical traditions sketched in broad strokes. On this foundation the essential dynamics of Christian spirituality are then developed. The course provides a discerning orientation to the wealth of ecumenical resources and insights available today while still highlighting the distinct heritage and core grace-centered values of classic evangelical spirituality. It concludes with practical wisdom for living our lives with disciplined intent. The course content can be conveniently adapted for teaching and formational purposes in congregational settings. Glen G. Scorgie, professor of theology at Bethel Seminary San Diego since 1996. Previously, he had taught for 15 years at North American Baptist College, Canadian Bible College, and Canadian Theological Seminary. He also served as Academic Dean and Vice President at North American Baptist College in Edmonton, Alberta. He received his Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews. He has been assisting with preaching and teaching at Chinese Bible Church of San Diego since 1997. Dr. Scorgie and his wife Kate have three children.
