"Tell me a story!" we hear children say. Children crave stories, and we fool ourselves by thinking we outgrow that need. Through stories, we learn who we are, what our world is like, how other people behave and think, and what makes for better or worse ways of living in the world. In After Virtue, the philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre asserted that a person "can only answer the question What am I to do?' if I can answer the prior question 'Of what story or stories do I find myself a part?" Yet we live in a time when our stories are fragmented, depleted, and too seldom heard. Join Susan Phillips as she reflects on the power and importance of discovering our own stories.
