Description
This course offers a panoramic view of Christian history from the apostolic age to the present, emphasizing the cross-cultural diffusion of the faith and the consequent demographic and cultural changes within the Christian community. Attention will be given to all six continents, and to the processes of decline and recession as well as advance. The course will aim to demonstrate that the global nature of Christianity is not of recent growth by considering the Christian histories of Africa and Asia over two millennia. It will explore issues of Gospel and culture historically, seeking to develop cultural sensitivity in the reading of history. Lectures include:
- The Church's First Cultural Frontier
- From Babylon to China
- Territorial Christianity and the Great Migration: Latin America
- V.S. Azariah
- Conclusions
