The purpose of this course is (1) to introduce a standard work of literature which richly illumines the Christian experience and deeply influences subsequent literature, (2) to encourage a thoughtful exploration of the theme of "spiritual pilgrimage" as explored in more recent literary works, and (3) to enable deeper reflection on personal experience of the Christian life by developing a repertoire of imagery and a range of genres through which to express spiritual experience.
