Description
This series is designed to provide a study of the historical development and content of the Christian doctrine of creation. Emphasis is on the fact that the doctrine is a part of Christian confession rather than a piece of science of philosophy, though inevitably relations between the two disciplines are never far apart. The heart of the treatment is to understand creation as an act of the triune God, realized through Christ and the Holy Spirit, which provides the basis for God's covenant love and so sets the scene for an ethic of praise to God the Creator. Lectures include:
- The Main Features of a Doctrine of Creation
- The Point of the Doctrine of the Trinity
- The Biblical Basis of the Doctrine of Creation
- Incarnation, Eschatology, and Creation: Irenaeus
- Theology of Culture: Origen of Alexandria
- The Ambiguous Achievement of Augustine of Hippo
- The Emergence of Natural Science
- Christology and Contingency in the Middle Ages
- The Recovery of a Trinitarian Doctrine of Creation
- In the End, God: Eschatology and Ethics
