Description
Alan Torrance points out how the use of language can condition people's perception and reality, which has influenced people's role in church. Torrance argues that using male pronouns and male imagery to refer to God functions subliminally in people's minds to suggest divine ratification of the superiority of the male gender. As a result the contribution of women to the life of the church has been lost in history.
