Paul Theologian, Historian, or Something Else? from Regent Audio on Vimeo.
Although how Paul read Scripture lies at the heart of his gospel, there is no consensus on the matter. This lecture proposes that the critical question is how Paul “knows.” While clearly not a “theologian,” and far closer to Hellenic historians, his significant differences suggest he is closest to Israel’s ancient prophets. Paul’s “in Christ” identity reflects a deep personal devotion to the LORD Jesus whom he met on the Damascus Road, not unlike Moses’ encountering Yahweh during the Exodus. His fundamental hermeneutic is similarly relational, and in assuming Yahweh’s faithful character, drives his vision of Christian transformation.
